The History of Mueller

The beginning

Mueller Die Cut Solutions, formerly Mueller Belting & Specialty Co., Inc. was founded in 1940 by Fred N. Mueller and occupied 4,000 sq. ft. in a loft building in lower Manhattan. At that time Mueller was a manufacturer of leather transmission belting and leather specialties, and a distributor of vee belts, rubber conveyor belting and mechanical rubber products.P47

When the nation entered World War II the leather industry was called upon to supply leather gaskets. Mueller furnished the first fuel tank gasket, fabricated from belting leather, for the Republic Aviation P47 and Grumman Hellcat fighter planes.

This was Mueller's introduction to the gasket fabricating industry. As technology increased Mueller expanded into the fabrication of gaskets made from various materials such as vegetable fibre, cork, synthetic rubber and cork and rubber compounds. After the war Mueller pursued the gasket business in commercial industry along with the continuation of our distribution business.

Expansion - North & South

In 1949 Mr. Donald Stober joined the Mueller organization as a salesman. Increased sales from 1949 through 1953 induced Mueller to move to larger quarters. In 1953 Mueller moved from lower Manhattan to an 8,000 sq ft plant in Englewood, New Jersey.

After the death of Mr. Mueller in January 1961, the present management under the direction of Mr. Stober took charge and concentrated Mueller's sales efforts to the growth of the gasket fabrication portion of the business.

In 1967 Mueller moved to a new 22,000 sq ft facility in Saddle Brook, New Jersey and in the fall of 1980 Mueller opened an additional 24,000 sq ft fabrication facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1994 the Charlotte facility expanded to 45,000 sq ft. In the spring of 2003 we consolidated our Saddle Brook facility to our Charlotte facility. At the present time Ken, Brian and Carl Stober provide the leadership for the organization.

A Change in Name: A Better Reflection on Who We Are

Early in 2003 we changed our name to Mueller Die Cut Solutions Inc. This simple change reflects the evolution of our company and is a much more accurate description of what we are able to offer our customers. After all, virtually all of the work we do for our customers involves some form of die cutting. But, more important, is the word "solutions." This is what sets us apart. With our depth of experience in the OEM marketplace, we can not only provide the die cut product, but also assist you in developing and designing the most efficient and effective product possible. Again, while the name is new, our capability is not. In fact, our customers have consistently given us high marks for innovative solutions to difficult problems. Thus, our new name simply puts the emphasis where our customers place the greatest value.

Continued Growth

Mueller's continued growth in the gasket industry as a supplier to the OEM market can be attributed to our reputation for quality and service which has brought us recognition as one of the nation's top die cutting and gasket fabrication firms. We can attribute this growth to three major factors:

    1) Mueller has a unique combination of experience and innovative thinking. Over one third of the workforce has been with the company for more than ten years. When this is combined with some of the relatively recent key additions the result is a balanced approach of wisdom and creativity.

    2) Mueller's broad customer base, covering such industries as the air frame, aerospace, communication, lighting, valve, small engine, appliance and toy manufacturers to name a few, have proven to be a strong asset. We are proud to say that no one customer contributes more than 10% to our total sales volume. Such diversification of markets has enabled Mueller to grow even in a downturn cycle of the economy.

    3) Mueller's strong, loyal and lasting relationship with all of their suppliers has proven to be another factor of our continued growth. We feel that our suppliers hold us in the same high regard for quality and service, as do our customers. Their continued support has meant continued growth and profits for Mueller and our suppliers.

The Future

As Mueller enters the 21st Century, we look to build on the strong traditions that have made us a successful and valuable company as well as to continue to be an innovator in the die-cutting industry. Our goal is to continue exceeding our customer's expectations for many years to come.
